Stompgrip pads - thumbs up
01/20/15 4:08 AM

I fitted some Stompgrip pads a while ago and I am very satisfied with improved control it provides, especially when the front is airborne.

Those pads look good, like they are from the factory. Where did you find your pads?

Rktsled, I'm located in South Africa. I bought it from a local bikeshop. You can find it on eBay for about $50.

You get them in black and also clear. I have seen some of the clear ones turn yellowish when they are exposed to the elements for a while and rather went for the black.

It really makes a difference in maintaining body position with the added grip it provides for your knees. Also no more squashed cojones when riding with a pillion.

Have you guys seen the Techspecs?
Next level up from stompgrips.
One things for sure.
I agree that no matter which one you choose, after you ride with them you will never go back to a bare slippery tank...

Untamed, I'm in Port Elizabeth... yourself?

yannih, I had look at the Techspec on the web and it didn't look on the pictures to be as nicely integrated as the stompgrip. My perception might be wrong if I could see it first hand....and yes, you are 100% about not going bareback again... oops bare tank again. LOL

I've had the techspecs, they pale by comparrisson to the Stomp Grip..... Stomp grip is the real deal - they are sticky as fuk.... techspecs I find are just a glorified tank protector.
Please don't crucify me for my response.....

Ha Ha...
No problem at all here.
Me, I've tried both and Im a Techspec fan through and through.
Each unto their own.
As long as your tank is protected and there is more grip...

To each his own but those knobs on the stomp grip remind me of the plastic strips my grandmother used to spread across the living room to protect the carpet!

I love the look of the OEM from Cradle in the UK

Not too sticky, though. But they protect well.

Techspecs on my bike.
Better softer material than plastic, matching back and side tank protectors that grip just fine in my opinion, and can be removed and repositioned if required.

I believe I heard Stomp Grips are more the choice for track riding but TechSpec looks a lot better IMHO. Never tried Stomp Grips but I agree, TechSpec grips great for me. I've never slipped off of it.

The main reason I went with Stomp Grip is because I have used them on other bikes and like them, and they come in clear. I would have given Tech Spec a try if they had a clear version.

I gave up trying to stick the fin panel grip on. I couldn't get it to align correctly or hanging off the gap. So I only applied two grips on each side instead of three.

I didn't have any trouble. Heat them up with a heat gun as you apply and feel free to stretch them into position where necessary.

Any help getting the air pockets out of the stomp grips?

I was lucky with my application and did not get any air pockets. If the airpocket is not to big you can get away heating with a hairdryer and using a needle to puncture it.

A friend of mine had multiple bubbles and I used a hypodermic needle because it's hollow and helps to evacuate the air easier..

Good luck.

I had clear ones on my gen 1 and the older they get the more I found it loosing traction, especially on a hot day. This gave the appearance of air bubbles.
Thus I went for black this time around.
